Artist Reception at the Agora Borealis

Please Join us Wednesday, August 24th from 5-8pm for an artist reception honoring Ann Gilloon. Gilloon's work will be featured on the Gallery Wall August 22nd- September 24th.

"Neither Created nor Destroyed"

"The first law of thermodynamics, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another. For example, turning on a light would seem to produce energy; however, it is electrical energy that is converted."

This new series of painings is an interpretation of the beauty in our connections, our linkage with the world around us and the energy that will pass from these seemingly disconnected things. Energy transfers between all things and is represented in all forms of science from biology and geology to astronomy. It is the light that touches the flesh of these figures and wraps through the jagged stone mountains and spreads up through the star studded cosmos. This body of work is about the energy that exists in everything- light, heat, chemical, electrical. It is this energy that we pass to one another in the most intimate and subtle ways, and also in the unavoidable and deafening explosions we share.

Ann Gilloon grew up in McKinney, Texas, and would come to earn her BFA at the University of Texas in Arlington with a concentration in painting. Ann primarily works with acrylic and watercolor paint and also enjoys mixing a wide array of varied media to create dense, rich layers. She has a deep interest in color and its use in personifying emotion and connections to the world around us.

She continues to explore all medias and is beginning to incorporate light and more structural elements into her work. Ann enjoyed teaching art intermittently and now looks to further explore her ideas in her work that will relate to humanity and the connections and emotions we experience through each other and our world. Ann has shown work in selected local businesses, with F6 art in the park exhibit, in conjunction with Ironic Ink, at the Agora Borealis, and is enjoyed by private collectors.

Exquisite Corpse- drawing game between Robert Trudeau & Mart Burt

Compulsive sketchers Mark Burt and Robert Robert E Trudeau will engage in a surrealist drawing game called Exquisite Corpse.

The back-and-forth drawing session will take place on a Saturday. The two artists will also chat with art lovers and sign work that they sell.

Burt is is known for fantastical creatures and detailed, interplanetary landscapes. He has been published in Suspect Device Comic Anthology Volume 3 and 4. Burt is exhibiting work at the Ro2 Gallery in Dallas and Antler Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon. In August Burt was mentioned in HiFructose Magazine Blog for his contribution to a collaborative show with renowned illustrator Jon McNair. Trudeau says his pen and ink drawings are influenced by Edward Gorey and R Crumb.
